Mr. Tom Wilkinson, Jr Set to Retire March 31, 2021;  New BVCOG Director Michael Parks selected to Begin April 1, 2021

After 29 years of service Mr. Tom Wilkinson has offered and the Brazos Valley Council of Governments (BVCOG) Board has accepted the date of his retirement.  During his tenure, Mr. Wilkinson has shepherded the BVCOG’s substantial growth into a center point for regional services to the seven-county region. (Brazos, Burleson, Grimes, Leon, Madison, Robertson and Washington counties).  

Workforce development, housing, senior nutrition, public health services, adult education, emergency preparedness, regional communications, 9-1-1, community development, public procurement and broadband services are a few of the activities that have become synonymous with the Council of Governments.   A reception is planned in his honor on March 30, 2021 from 4-6 pm at the Center for Regional Services at 3991 E. 29th Street, Bryan, TX.  For those that prefer a virtual option, please call BVCOG offices at 979-595-2800 to learn how to participate.

The BVCOG Board is proud to announce the selection of Mr. Michael Parks as the next Executive Director for the Brazos Valley Council of Governments.   Mr. Parks is a 19 year employee of the BVCOG and has fulfilled the position of Assistant Executive Director during that time.  Much of his work at the BVCOG has been in Community and Economic Development, Transportation, Emergency Preparedness and Broadband deployment.   Mr. Parks has extensive experience in working with state and federal funded programs and grand.  He received his bachelor’s degree in City and Regional Planning from New Mexico State University which happens to be in his home town of Las Cruces, NM.   He also earned his master’s in Public Administration from New Mexico State University, as well.  Upon graduation, Mr. Parks became the Transportation Planner for the City of Las Cruces, NM.

Upon moving to the Brazos Valley in 1997, he worked as the Director of the B/CS Metropolitan Planning Organization.   In 2002, Mr. Tom Wilkinson, hired Mr. Parks as the Assistant Executive Director of the Brazos Valley Council of Governments.

Mr. Parks is married to Fanette Parks and has two Texas A&M Aggie children, Shawna (Class of 2020) and David (Class of 2022).

Established in 1966, Mr. Parks is the BVCOG’s third executive director and looks forward to continuing the fine regional work established by the previous directors, Mr. Glen Cook and Mr. Tom Wilkinson.
