BVCOG Launches Regional Solid Waste Outreach Campaign to Engage Brazos Valley Communities

Bryan, TX — August 1st — The Brazos Valley Council of Governments (BVCOG) is proud to announce the launch of a regional outreach campaign designed to promote awareness and community engagement around the Regional Solid Waste Management Plan (RSWMP), a comprehensive 20-year plan that aims to improve sustainability and reduce environmental impact across the Brazos Valley.

The campaign, which runs from August through October 2025, will share information and action steps tied to key goals of the plan through social media, video content, and public engagement initiatives. Each goal focuses on a specific priority, from reducing waste in the business community to encouraging proper disposal and disaster debris planning.

“This campaign is an opportunity to bring the community into the conversation,” said Candilyn McLean, Program Manager of the Environmental Management & Planning Department at the BVCOG.

Campaign Highlights Include:

Goal 1 – Maximize Beneficial Resource Use
BVCOG will spotlight local businesses working to reduce their waste footprint through the “Waste-Wise Businesses of the Brazos Valley” series. The public is encouraged to tag sustainable businesses on social media using #WasteWiseBV.

Goal 2 – Maximize Proper Disposal
A “Dump the Dumping” challenge will launch in September to raise awareness about illegal dumping and promote proper disposal practices for residents, contractors, and property owners.

Goal 3 – Lead Regional Planning
BVCOG will share best practices and promote peer exchange opportunities related to disaster debris management, encouraging local communities to be storm-ready and proactive in their planning.

This is more than a public service campaign; it’s a call to action. Lasting change starts with informed and engaged communities.
