Brazos Valley, TX — In recognition of Stroke Awareness Month, the Brazos Valley Regional Advisory Council (BVRAC) is launching a comprehensive, data-driven campaign aimed at increasing stroke awareness, promoting prevention, and improving outcomes across all seven counties in the region.
Observed each May nationally, Stroke Awareness Month highlights the critical need for public education around stroke risk factors, warning signs, and the importance of immediate medical response. Stroke remains a leading cause of death and long-term disability in the United States, making early recognition and prevention efforts essential at both the national and local levels.
Within the Brazos Valley, stroke continues to impact individuals and families across Brazos, Burleson, Grimes, Leon, Madison, Robertson, and Washington counties, reinforcing the need for targeted, community-based education.
Month-Long Campaign Overview
Throughout May, BVRAC will roll out a coordinated series of educational initiatives designed to reach residents across the region, including:
- Weekly blog releases focused on stroke awareness topics such as recognizing symptoms, understanding risk factors, prevention strategies, and recovery
- A targeted Facebook campaign delivering easy-to-understand, actionable health information directly to community members
- Consistent messaging aligned with real data and trends specific to the Brazos Valley
Each week’s content is designed to build on the last, creating a full picture of stroke awareness, from recognition to recovery, while encouraging proactive health decisions.
Localized Outreach & Targeted Education
What sets this campaign apart is its localized approach. By using regional data and focusing on the unique needs of each county, BVRAC ensures that messaging is both relevant and impactful.
This targeted education strategy allows BVRAC to go beyond general awareness and provide communities with information that directly reflects the risks and realities within the Brazos Valley.
“Our goal is not just to inform, but to empower. When communities understand their risks and know how to respond, we can save lives and reduce the long-term impact of stroke across our region,” said John Herritage, Executive Director of BVRAC.
BVRAC encourages residents across all seven counties to follow along, engage with weekly content, and share information with family and friends throughout Stroke Awareness Month.
