Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)
Community Emergency Response Teams (CERTs) are volunteer-based groups that support local authorities during disasters and help educate the public on how to prepare for emergencies that may affect their area. When called upon, CERTs assist emergency services when their resources are stretched thin. Their training covers essential disaster response skills such as fire safety, light search and rescue, traffic control, and basic medical aid. By applying what they’ve learned through classroom instruction and practical exercises, CERT members are able to provide assistance in their communities or workplaces after an incident—especially in situations where professional responders are delayed or unavailable.
The Brazos Valley CERT Program
The Brazos Valley CERT Program was established in 2002 with the intent on focusing citizens and community preparedness in times of disaster. The Joint Brazos Valley CERT Program currently covers the Counties of Brazos, Burleson, Grimes, Leon, Madison, Washington, and Robertson County. We also have joint support with the Texas A&M Nursing Program CERT.
CERT teams in the Region are looking for new volunteers willing to serve their community. For information on how to join a local CERT team, or to get your organization trained in disaster preparedness, please contact Tanner Erb at (979) 595-2801 ext. 2029 or by email Tanner.Erb@bvcog.org.
